Last Wednesday my parents, Mike and I went to the State Fair for the feeder calf show. Mike has been around cattle shows a lot since we started dating. He has attended every County Fair, State Fair and
Ak-
sar-
ben show the Kellen and I have shown at over the past 7 years. He has also helped his cousin Kelli prepare for the Hamilton County Fair the last three years, but he has never actually shown himself. Well this was his night.

He worked very hard to keep an eye on the feet and the judge.
He even showed against my dad.

He got the heifer to set up pretty well, even though she did not want to work with him,

and he placed first. . .

From the bottom. Luckily Mike had a pretty good attitude about his first showing experience as he told us, "well I have no where to go but up."
I always envied my friends who showed cattle at the County and State Fairs when I was in 4-H. (Although I can't imagine me showing one of these critters.) I think it's neat that Mike got this experience. I'm sure he'll turn out to be a first-class showman.
