CWS

Way back in June the Goertzen's headed to Omaha for their annual College World Series trip.  Last year I told my grandparents I was expecting on our way to Omaha and things sure were different this year.
I prepared Mike ahead of time for the fact that we would be taking a family picture at some point and he is really good about going along with it.

Jase was asleep before the game even started.

Soon Jax followed suit.

Luckily it wasn't as hot as it has been in the past few years because we almost melted the way it was when I nursed the boys in a family restroom near our seats.  It was basically a folding chair in a handicap bathroom, but at least it was quite and I didn't have to wear a cover.

We had a great time and were glad we could include the boys in this family tradition; however, it is much harder to pay attention to what is going on when you are paying attention to two six month olds.  When Mike and I fell into bed that night I said "well that was fun, but who won the game" and he said "Honestly I don't know.  Do you want me to look it up on my phone."

Oh well it is more about the food and the atmosphere anyway.

7 months

This month we celebrated the Fourth of July even though I have no pictures to show for it.

We walked in the Henderson Community Days – 5 K Race and Mike ran.

Community Days was pretty tiring, but we all survived.

We are currently wearing size 3 diapers and 6 month and 9 month clothing.
Boy boys have started really reaching for things and showing interest in cups.

They got their 6 month shots and then cried all the way to and from Lincoln the next day for Twin Group.
We went Swimming twice.

Here is our Average Daily Schedule
7am – Wake up and Nurse.  Change diaper and clothes.
7:45 am – Head to Daycare.
8:30 am – Take a nap at Daycare
9:30 am – Wake up and drink a 5 oz. bottle then play and maybe catnap.
12:00 Noon -  Mom comes to daycare to nurse and they eat 2 cubes of solid food.
1-1:30 pm – Take a nap
2:30-3:30pm – Wake up and drink a 5 oz. bottle and play.
5:00pm – Mom picks them up and we head home.
5:30 pm – Nurse time with Mom.
6 pm – Eat 2 more cubes of solid food then playtime with an optional catnap.
8 pm – Nurse
8:30-9:30pm – Fall asleep for the night.
10:30 pm  - Dream Feed.
Sometimes we sleep through the night, sometimes one or both of use wake up at varying time for a pacifier or to nurse.

Since starting solids when they turned 6 months old, we have tried various fruits and vegetables including: avocado (7/1), sweet potato,(7/6) pear (7/16), banana (7/22), green beans (7/25).  The only food that they weren’t a fan of was banana and green beans, which I think was mostly due to texture.  At this point I am making their food.  I’m not sure how long we will keep this up, but so far I feel good about it.  I did buy some baby food pears while I was waiting for my pears to ripen.

We started eating 2 times a day on 7/20

We tried some apple juice mixed in with our food to help with constipation, but it may have caused Jax a rash, so we decided to wait to try more.

They laugh so much more this month and are still very happy babies.

They are on the move so much more than last month.  They mostly move in circles and backward, but crawling is getting close.

Started sitting by himself on a few seconds at a time on 7/4.  Even though he has fallen over backwards a few times, he got a lot better as sitting as the month went on.  He is not able to get into or out of the sitting position on his own.

Started trying to suck on his toes on 7/6

Is hard to calm down when he gets mad

Started blowing bubbles and food with tongue.
Spins circles on tummy efficiently starting 7/21
Likes to studies details and textures

6 months

  • This month both boys have really grown the skills they started to use last month.

  • Both boys started pushing themselves around more on the floor.  They have started to move backwards, spin in a circle or move sideways to reach a toy, a tag or pester their brother.
  • Both boys slept through the night from 10:30 pm – 6:30 am every night this month.

  • Playing with toys is becoming much more intentional and they each have their favorite toys.  Jase loves a soft crinkly book (they actually both like it and fight over it) and Jax loves a plastic giraffe at daycare.

  • Both boys are rolling but they are much more interested in sitting up assisted.
  • They have found their feet.  Jase is much more interested in them than Jax and tries to grab things with them.

  • We had our first taste of rice cereal on their 6 month birthday and they loved it.

  • They attended their first College World Series.

  • We moved up to size 3 diapers at night and eventually to them all the time this month.
  • Bathtime now takes place in our plastic tub in the bathroom bathtub and the boys kick like crazy.
  • They eat 5 oz (150 ml) for feedings at daycare
  • Started trying naps in the cribs

  • Can put their pacifier in their mouth by themselves and use the backside as something to chew on.
  • We enjoy spending time outside whenever we get the chance
Jax

  • Does not need his arms swaddled anymore at night

Jase

  • Sleeps best on his left side
  • Rolls from back –front-back.
  • Loves to be outside
  • Is usually the first one awake in the morning.

Child Dedication

On the day Jax and Jase turned 5 months old we had Child Dedication at church.

I wanted to add words from the service to this post, but I lost them in my email.  Bummer.  Here are some photos from the day.

The group that was dedicated.

At the church with Pastor Jim Voth.

We had our family over for a meal following the dedication.

We ate verenika on china, which may be one of two time I use my china.  The next time will be when the boys get baptized. I'm mostly kidding about only using it twice.  I think.

The boys even got in on the action and sat in their high chairs for most of the meal.

Then it was time for cake.  Half white for mom and half chocolate for dad.

It's a good thing we have cute boys because it distracts you from looking at how oddly the cake was decorated.

'
It is probably my fault the cake looked bad because I told them what to write, thinking they would put an "&" between their names.  I also told them to use blue, green and brown to go with the invitation but I didn't specify what shade of those colors. Oh well.

It was a great day for this family of four.
